Semi-Automated Data Preparation For Electrochemical Micro-Sensors
A graphical user interface (GUI) for electrochemical profiling in environmental monitoring. To speed up the often tedious and repetitive tasks of data analysis, I developed a graphical user interface to assist the user. This also allows for better reproducibility of the analysis.
Goal
Graphical user interfaces are designed to facilitate the user's interaction with the computer. In this way, the user can apply customized algorithms to a larger sample set and compare results at a glance without having to perform lengthy and repetitive analysis steps.
Result
Using GUIs, various important biogeochemical parameters can be analyzed at once. The optimized analysis strategies tailored to electrochemical sensors run in the background and can be efficiently applied to larger data sets.
This allows you to focus on the essentials and directly compare and interpret the results, being sure to always get reproducible and correct results.
DATA IN ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
Understanding our environment is a challenge in itself! How can we make sense of natural processes and phenomena and derive stochastically significant information? With (lots of) data – covering a larger area and monitoring over time! Yet data processing often involves repetitive steps that are time-consuming and tedious. Who is supposed to analyse and manage all this data?
This context provides an ideal setting for the development of a graphical user interface (GUI), aka computer software, which assists users in their work, makes data processing more efficient, and ensures the reproducibility of results while reducing user bias.

SOFTWARE FEATURES
Software versions for both operating systems, macOS (version 13+) and Windows (version 11+), are made available on GitHub.
-
REQUIREMENT
Support for management and automation of data analysis steps for electrochemical (micro-) sensors. The software enables multiple profile data from different biological key parameters to be analyzed and visualized together, enabling direct comparison of results. Potential parameters processed by the software are:
-
FUNCTIONALITY
· Dissolved oxygen O2
· pH value
· Hydrogen sulfide H2S and/or total sulfide
· Electrochemical potential EP
The software has been tested by researchers and compared to their usual analysis procedure.
-
EFFICIENCY
The main purpose of the software is to analyze multiple sensor profiles together and directly compare different key parameters. In this way, environmental mapping in a larger area or over a longer period becomes easier and more efficient.
-
RELIABILITY
The software is designed to guide the user through all necessary analysis steps. Accordingly, the user should understand the underlying theory to decide whether the results can be considered reasonable or whether adjustments are required. However, no special knowledge is required to operate the software itself.
-
USABILITY
In case of any bugs reported by the user, I will update the code scripts and provide an updated version on GitHub.
-
MAINTAINABILITY
